 Cantele

The Cantele is an old plucked instrument from Finland which is still being used today in the Scandiavian and Baltic culture as an instrument for folk songs. It has a range of two octaves in pentatonic or diatonic tuning. When played the cantele can be held by hand or used as a table instrument. The strings are plucked with the fingers. This produces a very soft, warm and enveloping sound which will resound in the space for a long time. The cantele is ideal for musical beginners since they obtain quick results through the very simple playing technique. This very quality makes the instrument an excellent tool for music therapy with mentally or physically disabled people. Furthermore the cantele can be recommended for group work.
